Under Road Boring

H2H Plumbing provides under road boring through the use of horizontal directional boring machines for various pipelines and utilities

What is Horizontal Directional Boring?

Directional boring is a minimal impact trenchless method of installing underground utilities. Utilities such as pipe, conduit and cables are bored in a shallow arc underground, using surface drilling equipment.

Boring instead of traditional cut and cover pipelines offer significant environmental advantages and minimises disturbances, such as closing roads. Horizontal directional boring also allows greater flexibility compared to conventional trenching.

Directional Boring/HDD is generally accomplished in three principal phases.

1. A small pilot hole is drilled.

2. The bore created by the pilot hole is drilled to expand to the size needed for pipeline or utilities.

3. The pipeline is pulled into the bored hole, creating an uninterrupted pipe exposed only at the endpoints.

Avoid surface obstacles such as roadways, railroads, wetlands and bodies of water with Horizontal Directional Boring:

The process is suitable for a variety of soil conditions including clay, silt, sand, and rock. Problematic soil conditions include large grain content in the form of coarse gravel, cobbles, and boulders.

H2H Plumbing provides various boring services using a range of equipment.
